What belongs on a repair work order
- The item, identified precisely. Make, model, year, and serial number. "Black acoustic" is how instruments get handed to the wrong person.
- Condition at intake. Existing dings, cracks, and missing parts, plus what came with it — case, strap, pedals. This protects both sides.
- The complaint in the customer's words, separate from the technician's diagnosis. They are often not the same thing.
- Parts and labor as separate lines. It makes the invoice defensible and lets you see the margin on the job.
- A promised date and an authorization signature. Including a cap beyond which you will call before continuing.
A template handles one job at a time. Once you are running a dozen at once, the questions become which are overdue, which are waiting on parts, and what the bench actually earned last month — work order software for repair shops answers those, and the full repair shop workbench ties every job back to the instrument and its owner.
