Layaway management
Layaway Software for Music Stores
Layaway is how a lot of instruments actually get sold — a deposit now, payments over a few months, the guitar waiting in the back. Music Shop Suite holds the exact unit, tracks every instalment, and stops held stock from being sold twice.
- Hold a specific serialised unit against a customer
- Deposit and instalment schedule with running balance
- Held stock removed from available inventory
- Payment history visible at the counter in one click
- Cancellation back to stock with your own refund policy
The unit is held, not just the model
Layaway on a serialised instrument means that instrument. Marking it held keeps it off the available list, so nobody sells the customer's guitar out from under them on a busy Saturday.
- Serial-level hold with the customer attached
- Held units excluded from available stock counts
- Expected completion date on the agreement
Instalments anyone at the counter can read
Every payment posts against the agreement with the date, amount, and remaining balance. Any member of staff can answer 'how much is left?' in seconds.
Follow-up before it becomes dead stock
Agreements sort by days since last payment, so stalled plans surface early — while a phone call still fixes it and the instrument can go back on the floor in season.
Reported as a liability, not as revenue
Deposits held against unfinished layaways are money you owe until the instrument leaves. The accounting reports keep them separate from realised sales.
See the workbench before you sign up
Inventory, pricing, lesson bookings, and instrument lending all live in the same back-office dashboard — no separate apps, no re-keying between them.

Frequently asked
- Can I hold a specific instrument for a layaway customer?
- Yes. The unit moves to a held status so it stops appearing as available stock, and the customer's name and deposit stay attached to that exact serial.
- How are instalments tracked?
- Each payment posts against the agreement with a running balance, so the counter can tell a customer exactly what is left without opening a notebook.
- What happens if a customer stops paying?
- You set the terms. The agreement shows days since the last payment and the remaining balance, and you can cancel it back to stock with whatever refund or restocking policy you use.
- Is this the same as rent-to-own?
- No. Layaway holds the instrument until it is paid off; rent-to-own gives the customer the instrument now with payments building equity. The Suite handles both.
